Gary Dimattia ( Pitching Insructor )

 Gary is a 1993 Graduate of Old Forge High School.  During his playing days at Old Forge, Gary became the first player in the Lackawanna League to win back-to-back All Regional Player of The Year in both his Junior and Senior Years.  During his Junior year, Gary was the winning pitcher on the 1992 AA State Championship Team at Old Forge and posted a record 9 wins and 0 losses, along with 98 strikeouts in 57 innings during that championship season. 

During his high school campaign, he spent 2 seasons under the tutelage of long time professional pitching coach Gary Ruby.

From 1994-95, Gary began his college career at Lackawanna College as well as playing for the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Twins in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League,  splitting his duties both on the mound and in the outfield.  On the 1995 Lackawanna team,  the team broke the record for most wins by a Lackawanna Team up to that point. Upon graduation from Lackawanna he was awarded the 1995 Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award by the College.

From 1995-97, Gary continued his career at King’s College where he is still the record holder in several pitching categories although he played only his final 2 seasons at King’s.  To this date he still holds the records for Best Career ERA 3.12, and Most Complete Games .15.  He is also in the top 8 pitchers statistically, in 8 more pitching categories that include (Most Innings Pitched – season-66.1 and 69,   Most Innings Pitched-career-135.1,   Most Strikeouts-season-63 and 59,   Most Strikeouts-career-122,   Best ERA-season-1.96,   Most Starts-career-18,   Most Complete Games-season-8 and 7).

In 2001, Gary began his coaching career at his Alma Mater Old Forge as an assistant to Head Coach John Armillay.  From 2001-07, Old Forge won 2 of 5 consecutive District 2 Championships in 06-07, and reached the Pennsylvania State Semifinals.  The 06-07 Team featured current Cincinatti Reds Pitcher Kyle Mcmyne drafted 145 overall in the 2010 MLB Draft.

From 2008-09, Gary continued under new Head Coach Rich Beviglia and participated in 2 more consecutive District 2 Titles with the 08 team reaching the Pennsylvania Eastern Final.

From 2010 to the current time, Gary continues to coach along side his older brother Anthony DiMattia at Old Forge High continuing the success of a 5th consecutive District 2 Title.

Throughout his 12 year tenure at Old Forge, Gary was also head coach of the American Legion Baseball Team for 7 years winning 2 League Championships.

Gary has never had a losing season.

Gary began training at the Sandlot when the doors opened in 2010 and conducts pitching instructions. He resides in Avoca with his wife Maureen and 3 children.
